Like different houses on “Game of Thrones” your company’s departments compete for power, glory and budget dollars. Some are peaceful like IT, HR, and finance. But some are fiercely competative rivals like sales and marketing. Sometimes it comes down to leads other times it is a fight for who gets credit. Other times the closeness of the two groups just breeds contempt.

From a social media standpoint sales tends to wield LinkedIn as its weapon of choice. marketing on the other hand likes to use Twitter and backs up its campaigns and decisions with analytics. Both can benefit from automation to bring the two houses together. This way leads can be graded and nurtured. And in the end ROI can be more accurately calculated to settle any disputes.

  1. This was awesome and I don’t even watch “Game of Thrones”. I especially love the section on “Brokering Peace”. I think the ‘House of Marketing’ has another rival and that’s the ‘House of Engineering (and Product Dev)’ but not for the same reasons and with different battles. Or maybe they’re not battling as much as they are failing to form the proper alliances. After all, they’re supposed to be on the same side, but sometimes they don’t communicate well. I wrote about it here: http://www.business2community.com/marketing/marketing-tech-match-made-purgatory-0710516#!zzBj6
I wish someone would take your infographic and create a spoof of “Game of Thrones” using the traditional functional business areas. Now that would be funny.
